The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Clinical Director of Pediatric Oncology at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (tenure or non-tenure track). The individual selected will join the Division of Hematology/Oncology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a pediatric oncologist. The successful candidate will focus on the clinical management of the service, increasing volume, and networking with referring providers across the State.
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 41st overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY14. The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 11th among public institutions, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 24th overall and 13th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY14. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 42 pediatric residents.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2015-16 the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in nine pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. A new 189-bed children’s hospital is scheduled to open in 2016.
Must hold an M.D.,M.D./Ph.D degree, or equivalent
License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa
Tenure track appointment requires evidence of scholarly productivity
Commitment to diversity in the work place
Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics
Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical experience in pediatric oncology
Experience in patient-oriented research
Knowledge of the “precision medicine” aspects of pediatric oncology
Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
