Position Description:

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full-time Director of Adolescent Medicine at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor levels (clinical, or tenure track) to join the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. The Director will lead the development of a preeminent Adolescent Medicine program with vibrant clinical, educational, and research components, in concert with the opening of a new free-standing 189-bed UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital in 2016. Substantial resources are available to build this program with the goal of becoming a national center of excellence in Adolescent Medicine. The Director will have the opportunity to recruit a number of additional faculty.



The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 41st overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY14.  The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 11th among public institutions, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 24th overall and 13th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY14. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 42 pediatric residents.



The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.  The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center.  In 2015-16 the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in nine pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. A new 189-bed children’s hospital is scheduled to open in 2016.

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

Clinical experience in general pediatrics



Tenure track candidates must demonstrate evidence of scholarly investigation



Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the educational community

Certifications:

Board certified or board eligible in adolescent medicine

Desirable Qualifications:

Teaching competence in general pediatrics for medical students and residents



Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs



Experience in residency curriculum development or medical education



Scholarly activity in the area of adolescent health



Clinical experience in the care of adolescents
