Working Title Teaching/Community Moderators—Online creative writing course

The International Writing Program invites applications for 8 moderators to work online/remotely for eight weeks within a massive open online course (MOOC). The course is titled “Moving the Margins: Fiction and Inclusion” and uses video talks, text readings, podcasts, and required discussion forum assignments to inspire and assist students in writing their own assigned fiction pieces.

The course will draw up to 10000 participants, so moderators will not be directly assessing individual students’ written work.

Moderator duties:

1) Create and respond to discussions on course content

2) Provide help to participants on navigating the site and progressing through the course, and assist them with problems and questions

3) Support international participants who are non-native speakers of English, and support participants who are new to online courses and/or to writing

Moderator time frame and salary:

Moderators will begin 1 July, and spend the first two weeks reading through/accessing all course content and creating discussion questions (approximately 10-15 hours per week).

When the course launches 15 July, moderators will spend approximately 10-15 hours per week, a few hours a day at least four or five days per week, responding to students.

Salary: 1800 USD.

Required qualifications:

--MFA in creative writing (indicate your ability to work with creative fiction) or MA in English, literature, ESL, or related field.

--Experience teaching, preferably online.

--Strong organizational and communication skills.

--Flexibility and creativity.
