The College of Nursing seeks to recruit a temporary (hourly) Communications Coordinator to support the achievement of College of Nursing and University objectives by enhancing positive image and reputation and building relationships with key audiences through events and initiatives. To successfully plan, promote and execute the college’s events and initiatives, the Communications Coordinator assists other members of the Marketing & Communications Team in event planning as directed, including the creation and distribution of announcements and invitations, event promotion, speaker arrangements, contracting with outside service vendors, and related follow-up. Some travel may be required.

Characteristic responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate constituency group(s).
  • Create survey tools and collect, enter, and manage data. Maintain stakeholder specific contact lists as appropriate.
  • Work with campus system view master to generate lists of designated individuals for collegiate events and activities.
  • Assist in the development of materials for events as needed (booklets, programs, etc.).
  • Coordinate specific college and academic program events (e.g., student-focused events, celebrations, alumni activities) and statewide college supported events and initiatives (e.g., 100 Great Iowa Nurses, and Legislative events).
  • Assist the development of the projected budget for the designated events.
  • Provide assistance to the other members of the Communications Team as called upon to ensure positive outcomes are achieved.
  • Work within assigned budget parameters for assigned project; monitors accounts/expenditures.

The temporary Communications Coordinator will have a standard work schedule; however, on occasion, the temporary Communications Coordinator is required to work outside of normal office hours to oversee and help coordinate events on evenings and weekends. When such instances occur, regular office hours can be adjusted to offset the special event support schedule.

Successful completion of a criminal background check is required. Professional references will be requested and required at a later step in the recruitment process.

Hourly up to fulltime, weekly.

Hourly wage $18

Education qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications include:

Professional experience with a wide variety of event planning.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in a wide variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and experience with desktop publishing, page layout and design.

Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated ability to develop and strengthen working relationships with diverse populations, including internal and external constituents, through positive interaction and collaboration.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member to accomplish goals.

Desirable Qualifications include

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud.

Professional experience in an academic college or department.

Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.

Photography skills.
