TEMPROARY PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEE/ PHLEBOTOMY – DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY

This is a part time, temporary position. Hours will vary.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by principal investigator of the research project. Performs phlebotomy and a variety functions related to phlebotomy.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs Phlebotomy and data collection duties related to grant requirements.
  • Performs routine and complex specimen procurement processes as identified through research requirements.
  • Administers basic standardized surveys.
  • Responds to or may direct responses to inquiries concerning phlebotomy policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate daily activities for data collection with a wide range of participants, consisting of adolescents, young adults and adults.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results.
  • Ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. Ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers.
  • Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory and facility equipment. Flexibility to work occasional nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate participant schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • Looking for an Associate’s degree or higher in Psychology, Sociology, Biological Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 6 Months - 1 year Phlebotomy experience is required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • Ability to travel, this position will travel to the Cedar Rapids, West Liberty, Iowa City or Des Moines area.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Safety standards.

Experience Desired:

  • Phlebotomy certification.
