Job Duties:

CLINICAL TECHNICIAN II

Job Duties:
* Set up and calibrate special monitoring devices.

* Checks out functional condition of all accessories and equipment: i.e., Doppler, nerve stimulator, light source, etc.

* Provides first line maintenance and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment in the operating room and satellite anesthetizing locations.

* Responsible for learning and understanding the intricacies of all equipment used by the Anesthesia Dept.

* Evaluates equipment failures to determine if failure is real or operator error. Replaces defective components or entire equipment if necessary.

* Documents malfunction in writing; describes symptoms, error codes, circumstances leading to failure and any additional information that may be relevant to the failure.

* Removes failed equipment and makes appropriate arrangements fro repair of defective device.

* Performs quality controls on Accu Cheks.

* Keeps track of and retrieves all loaned materials and equipment.

* Maintains all anesthesia service areas in readiness for anesthesia provider. These areas include, but are not limited to OR, ASC, PACU, Urology, and Labor and Delivery.

* Assure that proper anesthesia related equipment is available and in the correct configuration for the next case.

* Assures medications and supplies are available for the next case.

* Cleans all anesthesia related equipment and restocks the service area after each use.

* Restocks anesthesia carts, machines, totes and code boxes.

* Moves all necessary equipment to satellite anesthetizing stations, i.e., Radiology, Urology, etc. as needed.

* Provide directed hands-on patient care while assisting the Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists during special procedures.

* Responsibility for assisting with assessment, treatment, or provide hands-on patient care while assisting the care of patient in age groups: Infant (under 1 year), children (1-8 years), Adolescents (9-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 or older).

* Utilize aseptic technique in all service areas.

*Set up and assist Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists with invasive and non-invasive procedures.

* Assist the Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists with anesthesia induction and emergence from anesthesia if needed.

* Assist the Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists in the transport of patients from various locations while the patient is being monitored: i.e., SICU, CVICU, MICU to the operating room.

* Assist with patient prep for various anesthesia procedures as directed by the Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists.

* Set up, calibrate and hook patient up to monitors.

* Assist Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists with insertion of central venous pressure and pulmonary artery catheters.

* Assist with CPR, fiber optic intubation and other duties as directed by the Anesthesiologists/Nurse Anesthetists.

* Prepare intravenous set-up for Pediatric and Adult with accuracy for safety of patients.

* Assist with patient position (prone, lateral, supine) if needed and assure adequate coverage of pressure points for the enhancement of safety to the patient during the surgery.

* Cleans all anesthesia work areas and set up for to follow cases and completes terminal cleaning after last case of the day.

* Processes and sterilizes anesthesia accessories.

* Performs miscellaneous duties as directed by appropriate personnel.

* Stocks anesthesia workroom with all necessary supplies and accessories.

* Assures that all stocked medications and supplies are within required expiration dates.

* Restocks anesthesia carts, machines, totes and code boxes.

* Assist with inventory control. Must be constantly aware of importance of rotating stock.
