Position Description:

The Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one non-tenure Instructional Track Faculty Position in Business Communication at the level of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice, Associate Professor of Instruction or Practice, or Full Professor of Instruction or Practice, starting August 20, 2025. Rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. Position is 100% time (teaching 8 classes/year) and include a 1-7 year contract with benefits. Appointments are renewable and contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to participate in committee service and curriculum development.  Faculty receive grading support based on enrollments.



The business communication faculty group at the Tippie College of Business collaborates to deliver a dynamic and engaging set of courses to undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral-level students.  In partnership with the Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center and with administrative support from the Department of Accounting, Tippie business communication faculty receive grading support and development funds.  Tippie's business communication courses deliver critical instruction for communication skill development including writing, presenting, visual communication, storytelling in business, and effective use of Artificial Intelligence in the workplace.

Education Requirement:

Master’s degree in business communication, professional communication, or related technical communications field,

Or Master’s degree or Ph.D. in English/Communications or a related field,

Or Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of significant professional communications responsibility, with some experience at the management level.  

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of demonstrated excellence in teaching business communication or a related communications discipline (including English, composition, rhetoric, or general communications) or equivalent professional experience. 

  • Experience teaching or training using technology such as Zoom or Teams, including online instruction.  

  • Demonstrated business knowledge including an understanding of current business communication practices and applications.  

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching business communication. 

  • PhD in business communication, professional communication, or related technical communication field.  

  • Experience with generative AI in a communications setting 

  • Experience with Canvas or similar course-management system. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering an accessible course. 

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication course material design and/or assessment design. 

  • Two or more years of professional work experience in a communications-intensive role.
