Position Description:

The University of Iowa Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting a full-time board-certified interventional cardiologist to serve as the Medical Director of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Adult Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.   This position will be in the rank of Associate Professor or Professor on the tenure or clinical (non-tenure) track, depending on qualifications. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.



The chosen candidate will be responsible for the operations in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and will assist with overseeing the strategic growth of the interventional cardiology section.  The candidate will be responsible for faculty and staff development, as well as maintaining clinical schedules. 



Patient care will occur at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, affiliated outreach sites, and the affiliated Iowa City VA Medical Center.  Clinical duties will include diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, inpatient rounding and outpatient clinic.



 

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have an M.D. degree or equivalent and be board certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology. In addition, qualified applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited cardiology fellowship and an accredited interventional cardiology fellowship program or equivalent. 

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment is required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy interactions with students, staff and faculty. Clinical duties will include diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, inpatient rounding and outpatient clinic. Advanced expertise in complex coronary interventions/CHIP procedures is required. Candidates must have at least five years of hands-on experience in cardiology, specifically focusing on interventional cardiology.

Certifications:

Board certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology.

Desirable Qualifications:

Completion of advanced structural heart disease fellowship, subspecialty structural experience and/or CTO experience. Applicants with evidence of a strong commitment to clinical research, outcomes research and/or teaching are preferred. A demonstrated record of scholarly work and effective administrative leadership is preferred. The candidate should have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship can flourish. Experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs is preferred.
