Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Director for the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine.  Appointment rank may be at either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track at the Associate Professor or Professor level consistent with clinical experience and research interest.   The Director will lead the division’s clinical and educational services as well as provide leadership to our growing Pediatric Pulmonary Unit. The Director will benefit from institutional resources and will have the opportunity to expand both the clinical and interdisciplinary research program.



The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 39th overall by the 2020 U.S. News & World Report and 16th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY20.  Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 25th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY20. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.



The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2019-2020 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in six pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including neonatology, orthopedics, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 190-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017.

Education Requirement:

Must hold M.D. or D.O. or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

Board certified in Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and/or Pulmonology or equivalent



Tenure track candidates must have evidence of scholarly investigation



Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment



Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Desirable Qualifications:

5 or more years of experience in an academic health system



Strength in teaching and scholarly pursuits



Ability to develop and implement clinical programs



Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills



Demonstrated history of current and externally funded scholarly activity
