POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of Student Life; Recreational Services is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor Aide that will assist Swim Instructors to provide swimming and safety instruction assistance to children and adults following the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim curriculum and guidelines.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

  • Assist Swim Instructors in age and skill appropriate group lessons
  • Assist Swim Instructor in the evaluation and progress of Learn-To-Swim participants
  • Arrive to work on time and prepared to assist Swim Instructor with classes
  • Assist in the preparation in well-designed lesson plans for each class session
  • Provide feedback to Swim Instructor in regards to participant progress to participants, parents, and guardians
  • Maintain notes on participants and ideas for future classes
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions and meetings
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Previous experience teaching swim lessons and/or significant competitive swimming background
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations
  • Mandatory attendance at regularly scheduled in-service trainings
  • Ability to use independent judgement when needed
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to accommodate a variable work schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends
  • Must be a currently enrolled high school or college student

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must successfully completed a background check
  • Recreational Services Orientation

POSITION BASICS:

Hourly Rate: $12.25

WORK SCHEDULE:

Hours: 6-20 hours/week

Shift: Looking to fill weekend and evening shifts

Work Week: May work weekends

Additional Hours: As needed
